US Civil War M1840 Artillery Sabre. The Sabre has the Inspector Stamp A. King on the pommel along with the number 74 and matching 74 on the guard. The ricasso stamping on one side is partially obscured but US and letter K is legible. The maker stamp is not legible. I believe the maker is Ames but I could be wrong. The grip does exhibit some wear and minor surface loss to the leather.
The wire wrap is fully intact as is the leather washer. The blade is straight but does have some knicks to the edge and appears to have been cleaned as it does show evidence of some pitting.
The tip is not broken. There is no scabbard with this sword. Overall, a nice example of a US Civil War Artillery Sabre.
This Sabre would make a great addition to your US Civil War collection or pair up great with your Scabbard that is missing the Sword. Please see pictures for condition.
